DIGITAL ARCHIVE
01
Brief
The Fototesti Italiani website aims to gather a wide range of Italian phototests into a single digital archive, organized to be easily accessible to users from a visual perspective. The goal is to make the archive easy to navigate and ensure that all entities (technical data, authors, photographers, tags, locations, and metadata) are interconnected.
02
Client
The project was commissioned by the University of Catania, bringing together multiple departments in the humanities.
03
Team
I handled the entire UX usability and the full UI, from individual components and their functionality on the site to branding aspects, including the logo and micro-animations. Two developers contributed to the creation of the project.
FOTOTESTI ITALIANI
Challenge
The main challenge of the project was to create a mini brand identity consistent with the archive’s objectives, while ensuring that each entity was connected to the others and easily traceable, either through dedicated pages or by using the available filters.
FOTOTESTI ITALIANI
The aim of the project
The project aimed to create a digital archive accessible to researchers and students, allowing open consultation and the discovery of new Italian phototexts. The design draws inspiration from the aesthetics of print media and, more broadly, the editorial world, maintaining a clean and elegant approach. Usability was optimized to ensure an intuitive experience, with particular attention to the connections between different entities and ease of navigation.
FOTOTESTI ITALIANI
Approach and solution
Each entity on the site features a detailed page as well as an introductory page, serving both as a description and as a filterable listing. The usability approach was designed to ensure circular and interconnected navigation, giving users the opportunity to constantly discover new content.
FOTOTESTI ITALIANI
Final outcome
The final result is a visually appealing digital archive, primarily focused on the project’s initial objective: allowing users to discover new phototexts or quickly find information about those they already know. The site is fully navigable on both mobile and desktop, featuring a fully responsive design.
